Devoted atheist should not play Flyff, scientist says

"Devoted atheist should not play Flyff", says Bashir Ooshid, professor of evolutionary virtual world research in the University of Calcutta, whose paper "Theism and anti-science in Free-to-Play flying MMO games launched in USA 2005" was published today. He claims Flyff is a perfect example about an anti-atheistic game. In Madrigal, the world of Flyff, laws of Newton no longer apply and the players can perform magic which ignores the fact matter cannot be created without energy.

Flyff players believe motion of objects is caused by invisible harlequins pushing them around.
B. Ooshid takes flying as an example. In Flyff, players can fly with several vehicles which seem to accelerate and decelerate like in real world, but they actually don't. This can be easily tested by jumping off the flying vehicle.
  1. After leaving the flying vehicle moving at high speed, player will instantly stop. As result, player should heat up and maybe ignite, but there are no visible effects.
  2. Alternatively player should continue moving until they hit a solid object.
  3. When player drops from air to ground, there is no damage to player or the ground.
Ooshid has calculated density and mass of players are very small, as if they were bodiless spirits. Developers have intended players to believe they are souls in Heaven, which is obviously untrue because if Heaven existed, planes would have already collided with God's throne, chariot and such.

He has proven in his paper that gate theory applies. At first players are manipulated to believe laws of physics are untrue, and soon they believe they can perform miracles in the name of the God:
I entered the Arena, a place in which players can kill each other. There was this player called "ChriSter", whom I witnessed to "resurrect" a dead person. Like we all know, only Jesus Christ can resurrect the dead, so it is clear he didn't really resurrect the person. I asked other people if they thought this "ChriSter" resurrected a dead person. They said yes! They believed he was Jesus Christ playing the game, not only an ordinary human! When I told them this "ChriSter" was the Anti Christ, they did not believe a word, they had all converted to christianity because of this "miracle" they had witnessed.

Experts reveal best PvP classes and strategies

While FlyFF is primarily a PvE (Player vs Environment) focused game, there is still an enormous amount of PvP (player vs player) content to keep competitive minded players happy and absorbed for hours on end. Indeed, the PvP experience in FlyFF is not only visceral and action packed, but highly rewarding. [source]

We have interviewed several Flyff PvP experts to find out the best pvp classes, builds and strategies. All of the people interviewed considered jester and knight to be the best PvP classes, and ringmasters were also considered a good class. Even though we decided not to publish their names, we can assure you all of the people interviewed are top PvPers of their own server and thus know what they are talking about.

Jester

All the experts considered jesters the most dangerous pvp class. Full dex jesters can deal 3-5k damage with normal shots and even more with charged shots, which is enough to kill most people before they have time to react. Dark Illusion skill means they can enter arena while invisible and they are always first one to attack. If their target survives long enough to fight back, they usually fail to kill jesters because of their high evasion and block rate. After jesters reach level 105 they can wield LG bow and deal higher damage than any other class.

Knight

Thanks to popular full stamina build which is used by no other class, knights can have massive hp and defense. This means knights are one of the few people who are able to defeat a skilled jester. Many knights have enough hp to tank several charged shots in row, and their defense allows them to heal damage dealt by normal shots. With Sneaker skill they can prevent their opponent from fleeing and just hit them until they die. One of the experts suggests balanced stat build (same amount of str, sta and dex) to speed up kill, because knights have naturally high hp even with small amounts of stamina.

Ringmaster

Ringmasters cannot deal considerable amounts damage, but they are still good pvp class because of their survivability. Their Prevention skill will restore their hp back competely, so killing ringmaster is almost impossible. People at arena will always kill people who attack ringmasters, so most of your targets won't even bother to heal knowing they will be attacked by everybody if they fight back. This means it is often easy to score kills. However, if you attack a jester you should always be ready to cast prevention, because else they will kill you quickly and then kill everybody else on the arena.

Featured blog: US Flyff

True Flyff stories has decided to feature one of the most successful Flyff blogs, US Flyff blog. There are almost 10 Flyff blogs around there, so being the best is truly an accomplishment.

US Flyff is a satire blog which claims to have been written by Flyff GM team members. It is often mistaken to an official blog, even though it is not under gpotato.com domain and the blog writer won't even reveal their identity or email address. Like one of their readers told us,
"I thought the site was real until I saw the banner on the top of the site. It is hazy and unpolished, unlike pictures created by the most talented GM, TurBo, who is a wizard when it comes to drawing. He is like Michelangelo reborn, and I don't mean the ninja turtle! I think such banner is insulting his skills and I named my first born son Turbo to show my support."
One of the most successful hoaxes created by US Flyff blog is Super Secret Spawn. Series of posts with similar title encouraged many people to fly around looking for invasion, but they soon found the spawn is so secret it doesn't even exist. The meme soon emerged to other websites, and bloggers posted fake screenshots about how they had found the spawns.
Needless to say, most people thought they just were too late to find the invasion, and when the next announcement will come, they will try to find the super secret spawn again.

Sneak peek to v16: New skills

KFlyff received v16 update a couple of days ago, and details of all skills have been published. In this article we will describe most useful skill of each character class. Every class will receive other skills too, but they are not useful or notable. All information is from Flyff World, which is absolutely reliable source for this kind of information.

New skills can be obtained after job change at level 130-H and there are no other prerequisites. All skills have 5 levels and are increased with skill points.

Blade and Knight

Most important skill of Blade is called Holding Storm. This skill will stop target from moving and it has 11% success rate at maximum level. This skill stacks with mercenary skill Sneaker, which will stop target from moving and has 95% success rate.

Knight will receive skill called Templar Pulling, which summons target within range. At first glance this skill would seem to be exactly the same as their hero skill, Drawing, but Templar Pulling only consumes 500 FP. Needless to say, these two skills can be vital when fighting against the new bosses.

Ranger and Jester

Ranger will receive skill called Hawk Eye, which adds 30% range. This skill can be very useful, because it stacks with ranger hero skill called Hawk Eyes. The most powerful new skill belongs to Jester. This skill is called Evasion Increase and it will increase parry rate by 30. Such amount of parry rate is equal to 60 dexterity, so this skill virtually adds 60 stat points.

Billposter and Ringmaster

Billposters and Ringmasters will get new support skills. The Billposter skill is known as Aurora of Insanity, and it will grant 45% critical rate for all surrounding party members. Sadly this skill is not very useful, because all CS items make it easy to max crit rate, but it is better than nothing.

Ringmasters will receive skill called Absolute Barrier. Their low defense and hp would make supporting in dungeons difficult, but this skill will protect them from all kinds of damage for 5 minutes. There is no cooldown and the skill has 100% success rate. However, we believe everybody above level 130 can afford to pay some resurrection scrolls they can use if they are killed by an aggro while supporting.

Psykeeper and Elementor

Scream of Terror, a Psykeeper skill, inflicts bleeding. Bleeding usually deals 80 damage per second, but it can be increased with some CS items. This skill can be useful when stacked with some other DoT spells. Elementors will receive Sleeping, which will put target to sleep for a couple of seconds with 100% success rate. Sleep is a new, currently unknown status condition, but most likely it is similar to psykeeper hero skill Petrifaction, which does disable HP, MP and FP recovery.

V16 will fix defender set and expand lord events

KFlyff received v16 update today and some changes which were not announced before update have been posted to official kFlyff forum and several fansites. We will list some of those changes in this article because most English sources have ignored them competely and focused to how new jobs, areas, skills and weapons work.

Jewellery sets

  • Defender set's bonuses now work and it gives immunity to stun, burning, bleeding and poison (but not against rooting or blood suck). Bonuses of adept and marksman sets are still broken but fix has been promised for v18. Blade and billposter weapons are only new weapons which are fully functional. Most of those bonuses will be fixed in v17 but some have been postponed until v18.

Lusaka bow and yo-yo

  • After v15 yo-yo rangers became popular in kFlyff because they were finally able to use an ultimate weapon. This immediatelly angered korean yo-yo jester community. Now in v16 developers have classlocked lusaka yo-yo for jesters and lusaka bow for rangers. People who had those weapons equipped before v16 maintenance found out they have been unequipped but are still soul linked. Other lusaka weapons are still classlocked for first job classes.

Skill modifications

  • Stonehand has been changed and it now works with all skills, including merkaba and holycross.
  • Skill system has been modified. Most modifications are still unknown, but people have noticed all mp-based skills are now considered magic skills, meaning they are affected by curse mind (elementor hero skill) and casting time modifiers. This includes ranger and acrobat skills. Asalraalaikum is now considered fp-based skill and thus unaffected by casting time modifiers.

New lord events

  • Lord experience events can now give experience bonus up to 500%. Lords can also run negative experience (down to 0.2x exp) and drop rate events (down to 0.1x drop rate) to raise funds for positive ones. This feature has been praised by the korean community because most of them play during 4 busiest hours, leaving 20 hours for negative experience and drop rate events. The first level 140 of kFlyff says he wouldn't have been able to afford 10 levels in one day without negative experience events.
  • KFlyff community is getting bored to having lord events every week, so developers have promised some new version will make lord elections more difficult. Community expected this in v16 but it was not done yet.

27.5m/hour at level 15: Comparison of low level money making methods.

Even though experienced players can get money quickly, it can be difficult to people who are low level and have little knowledge about the game.

We tested different money-making methods with level 1/15/28 characters (depending the method used) with npc equipment, pang buffs and no external support. The best method (27.5m/hour at level 15) will be described in detail because we were unable to find a guide for it.

The methods we tested

  • Farming level 5 quest by making new characters to level 5 resulted in 100-150k per hour.
  • Farming Forform with a level 15 vagrant resulted in 300-400k per hour.
  • Farming Vice Veduque with a level 28 mercenary resulted in 1-2m per hour. This is the only method with a limit. Deleveling is required if you want to make over 10-15m, and time spent on deleveling will decrease profits per hour.
  • Begging with a level 15 mercenary resulted in amazing amount of 27.5m per hour.

How to beg effectively

Typical conversation with a generous player.
We decided to split the process of begging to two parts to gain maximum effiency:
  1. Finding rich people and approaching them via /say, asking for 10m each
  2. Moving around and posting "please give me 1m" in local chat
Over the course of two hours of active money-making on Lawolf channel 1 we were able to get 31m penya. We also received an awakened vagrant set that sold for 24m overnight. This is equal to 27.5m per hour.

Splitting the process turned out to be very effective, because without part 2 we would have gained 0.5m penya less per hour. Were we to continue this 8 hours per day for an year, 0.5m per hour would equal 1.46 billions.

How to identify a rich and generous person?

These symbols indicate the player is generous; people with both symbols gave money at 37.5% probability, but people with only one symbol gave money at 17.6% probability.
Rich players are usually easy to make out from other players:
  • Rich people glow a lot.
  • People with a crown next to their name are often rich.
  • People with master or hero tag next to their name are often rich.
  • Rich people always spend their time in Darkon (checking shops) or at Arena (chatting with other rich people).
  • People on the top list are rich.

Note that most of rich players are not willing to give money to you. In that case you should move on and ask another player. Spending lots of time to convince one player will decrease your profits per hour.

Sometimes it would be the best to use multiple characters of different classes to beg. A mercenary will receive better equipment from people who are not willing to give money, but some people would rather give money for a low level FS RM.

Interview of Dale Owen, a Flyff team member

Gala-net Inc, North-American arm of the Gala Group and the company behind gPotato gaming portal, hosts six free-to-play MMORPG games, including Flyff. After several fruitless visits to the Gala-Net building in Sunnyvale, California, in August we were finally allowed to interview a Flyff team member Dale Owen, on phone.

What can you tell us about yourself to our readers?

My name is Dale Owen, I am 34 years old and I work for Gala-Net as a junior game master manager. Our job in the game master team management team (sic) is to manage GM teams of the gPotato games. I have been responsible for the Flyff GM team since 2006.

What does a typical day for you look like?

My job is to make sure everything is working smoothly in the GM team. I could even say that I must ensure every GM is working all the time, hehe.

Whenever our own GM team holds a meeting or a coffee break, we must take part to it and document everything. When there are no meetings going on, we observe the game masters and try to predict all social conflicts before they trigger. Every morning the GM management team holds a meeting and if there are problems in some team we must figure out solutions to them.

How difficult do you think your job is?

Game masters can sometimes be challenging to work with. Many GMs are addicted to something like anime, zombie movies or Pokémon, and some of them have habits that could be considered unusual among normal people. It is sometimes difficult for them to figure out how something is working in real life. Like children, they are very impulsive and anything can happen. We in the GM management team must make sure there is no collateral damage, so to say. Especially the maintenance nights are difficult.

Could you describe some incident in detail?

When GM Lexicious left the team last year, we had an emergency meeting with the GM management team. A GM team usually needs a female member so that the male members would try to entertain her instead of spending that all extra energy to something that can be harmful. A good example is when some Flyff GMs accidentally shut down servers in 2008 (they were making some inside joke video about "releasing the hamsters"). In case of Flyff team we luckily managed to channel this extra energy to nerf guns and Pokémon plushies. I think we will soon have the whole Pokédex in the office!

What can you tell us about version 16?

A new version does always mean a lot of extra work for the GM team. Our Flyff will not announce anything about next version for a while, but we already have all the information and long meetings are held every day behind the scenes. Before announcements about version 16 can be published, the Flyff team has to create new English names for all new items and things based on machine translations from Korean. Sometimes whole day is spent on debating about name of a specific item. New events and cash shop sales have to be planned as well, so preparation to a new version can usually take 2-3 months.

Do you have any last words for our readers?

Before you send your job application to Gala-Net, let me quote a joke told me yesterday by RabidFish, Flyff community manager:

"How do you get a snorlax on a bus?"
"Poke 'em on!"

I hear dozens of these every day and I really believe I would have lost my mind without a military training.
